Weekend Sports Wrap: Ramapo Boys & Girls Soccer Roll to Quarterfinals
Shutout victories by both Ramapo squads put them in next Sunday's Bergen County quarterfinals. Ramapo and Indian Hills football both endure tough losses.

Down by a touchdown with less than a minute and a half on the clock, Danny Thompson drove Indian Hills 65 yards on 6 plays, finishing it off with his fourth TD pass of the day. St. Joe’s avenged a home loss to the Raiders last season, getting payback in a big way in Franklin Lakes on Saturday night. Ramapo could not get their offense going against the Green Knights, as they were held scoreless until the final quarter. After falling behind 21-0 at the half, the Raiders were never able to come back from the big deficit. Quarterback Ryan Dougherty threw touchdown passes to Neil O’Connor and Andy Gillard for the only two scores for the 3-2 Raiders.
St. Joe’s continues their perfect season (5-0) but will face #2 Bergen Catholic lead week. With the loss, the Raiders drop to #10 in the Top 25. Their next test will be on Friday night when they travel to Wayne Valley.
SUNDAY
Boys Soccer
Raiders 8 – Queen of Peace 0
Seven different Ramapo players put a goal on the board including sophomore Ian Foryessy who scored 2. Mikey Taranto, Chris Nash, Sean Ethridge (2 assists), Brandon Alverado, and James Ortiz all had a goal and an assist.
Girls Soccer
Lady Raiders 6 – Westwood 0
The girls’ team also earned a shutout, getting off to a quick first half start and riding it out straight into the quarterfinals. Coming off a 4 assist game in their last outing, junior Jen Andresen scored 4 goals in this one to power the Lady Raiders. Andresen struck early and often, notching the hat trick less than 15 minutes into the match. Caroline Chagares and Noelle Trattou scored the other goals and Amanda Baumgarten helped set the table with her 3 assists.
Ramapo’s quarterfinal opponent will be Pascack Valley, who defeated Demarest 3-0 to advance.
