Ramapo Varsity Cheerleaders Take Home National Championship

Varsity squad took first place in Orlando

They worked hard all year, and their efforts paid off last week when the Ramapo Varsity Cheerleaders won the grand prize in Orlando.

The girls won first in their division — varsity level three — at the competition on February 26. They also had the highest score in all of level three, which earned the team $1,000 towards the trip back to Orlando next year.

"It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where we are," said Coach Alexis Cassese.

Out of a total of 24 teams, Ramapo had the seventh highest score, Cassese said.

The girls competed in 6 competitions this season: the UCC invitational at Farleigh Dickenson University, West Milford HS, Lyndhurst HS, Big North, Paramus Catholic, and Nationals in Orlando.

According to Cassese, the girls placed first overall at FDU, West Milford, and Lyndhurst; and first in their division at Big North and, with the second highest score in their session, second place at Paramus Catholic.

"The win was somewhat unexpected and the girls were more than excited about it," Cassese said. "They have worked so hard all season and truly deserve the win! I am so proud of every single one of them!"
