Meet the BOE Contenders at "Candidates Night"
BOE Candidates offered views on issues affecting schools, students
Candidates running for the Wyckoff Board of Education put their views on the record Wednesday as The Wyckoff PTO Coordinating Council hosted a “Meet the Candidates Night" at the Eisenhower Middle School.
For the Wyckoff School District, four Candidates will vie for two, three year terms: Karl Drehwing, current BOE President Robert Francin, board member Thomas Giamanco and board vice president Lisa Martone. Raymond Hovey is running uncontested for a single, one year term. Drehwing did not attend the event.
The format for the evening allowed each candidate to give a two-minute long opening statement. Candidates were then asked pre-selected questions about their experience and views on issues affecting the Wyckoff school district and education in New Jersey. All participants were able to answer each question.
Board of Education Candidates for the Ramapo Indian Hills district were also invited to make a statement to the audience. There are three candidates vying for the Wyckoff seat currently held by Jeff Brown, who is not seeking re-election. The candidates are Isabelle Lanini, Kenneth A. Porro and Sabaudin Skenderi. Skenderi did not attend the event.
School elections will be held April 27th and include a vote on the proposed budget for the 2011-2012 school year. Polling locations in Wyckoff will open at 2 p.m. and close at 9 p.m.
