Wyckoff Committee Expected To Approve Emergency Park And Ride Policy

The policy would allow officials to approve emergency use of the Community Park parking lot for free for up to two weeks.

WYCKOFF, N.J. — The Township Committee is slated to approve an emergency transit policy allowing commuters to use part of the Community Park parking lot free.

The committee's Public Policy Subcommittee could approve emergency use of the lot for up to two weeks due to a "transit emergency," which include a disruption of service on NJ Transit bus and trains and private line buses due to a labor strike, an emergency, such as the light rail crash in Hoboken, or if the government or NJ Transit bans such transportation.

Officials opened the lot last year for all commuters following the Hoboken crash.

The parking spaces could be used on a first-come, first-serve basis and parking permits be waived for up to two weeks. After such time, commuters would need to purchase a temporary permit for $40.

Annual parking permit holders would be given priority for spaces should the lot be in high demand.
