Oakland and West Essex Win Wyckoff Softball Tournament
The tournament featured face painting, hair braiding and carnival-style games.
Wyckoff hosted an 18-team softball tournament at Community Park over the weekend for girls 12 and under and girls 10 and under. The West Essex Warriors won the U10 division in a championship against Branchburg and the Oakland Braves won the U12 against Fair Lawn.
The tournament was for “B-League” softball, not club teams. Tournament organizer Aimee Williams said she didn’t want anyone to not have fun because there was too large a gap in ability.
“We’ve got a lot of great girls playing. We really want them to have fun,” Williams said.

Unfortunately for Wyckoff fans, all of the home teams playing were knocked out around the middle of the tournament. Still, a number of Wyckoff players and parents stayed to watch the last game.
“We’ve got some good competition going,” Williams said.

The tournament also featured a variety of activities for children not playing softball, including face painting, hair braiding and carnival-style games. The concession stand also served breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Cristyn Madley is a Wyckoff parent who volunteered to sell T-shirts to raise money for the softball program and whose daughter played on the U10 team.
“It’s been a great day,” Madley said.
This year’s was the fourth tournament held in Wyckoff. They are in the last weekend of June each year.
