Wyckoff Please Reject Chicago Style Gutter Politics November 6th

HATE HAS NO HOME IN WYCKOFF

"I was appalled and disgusted by the hit piece sent by my opponent’s campaign against my running mate Tom Madigan that hit Wyckoff voters mailboxes this weekend at the same time a positive piece about her was also sent. This attack on Tom was disgusting, tasteless and false and has no place in Wyckoff.

Our opponent has invited hate from outside of Wyckoff and has brought Chicago style politics to Wyckoff. It must be rejected! Hate has no home in Wyckoff and is not welcome.

I never had running for elected office as one of my life goals because I never wanted to be part of a vicious campaign that has evolved in this election. I was under the belief that Wyckoff elections are immune to this style of elections and that it does not happen in Wyckoff. I took the leap of faith and decided to serve Wyckoff and run for re-election 2 years in a row because I love and care about Wyckoff. Tom has served Wyckoff his entire life.

When I ran against our opponent last year and won the one year term, I did not disparage or make any false accusations against her to win. I was confident that this year would be a similar style campaign and Tom and I have run on our records and have run a very positive campaign. That changed yesterday when her campaign’s attack piece falsely attacking Tom as a racist and a criminal arrived in town mailboxes. Tom is neither and I would not have run a campaign with him if I believed an ounce of it were true. Tom is a good man.

This style politics cannot be permitted in Wyckoff. If I was aware that this style politics would appear in Wyckoff I probably would not have run and subjected my wife and children to these type of attacks. If my opponent is successful in winning this election after this act, this style politics will become normal in Wyckoff and will have a detrimental effect on attracting good, decent and well intentioned women and men from running for office in future elections and will reward selfish opponents who run a false smear campaign as the ticket to wining an election.

I urge Wyckoff voters to send a message that you cannot win in Wyckoff if you run your campaign from the gutter. Please vote column 2 for Tom and Tim, true leaders that love and care about Wyckoff and its future. “

Timothy Shanley, Candidate for Re-Election to Wyckoff Township Committee
