Wyckoff Resident Remembered With Gift To Center For Food Action

Andrea Tilbian Halejian died in 2014 and gave her time to help others in need.

WYCKOFF, N.J. — The memory of a beloved township woman was honored with a grant from the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation to the Center for Food Action Thursday.

The foundation awarded the center a $1,000 grant from the Andrea Tilbian Halejian Memorial Fund. The fund helps support organizations Halejian helped before she died in 2014.

The grant will help continue Halejian's "legacy of community involvement and support," said Alexis Halejian, Andrea's daughter, and a member of the fund's advisory committee.

The Center for Food Action was chosen because Halejian volunteered there. The grant will be used to help the center sponsor the National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sept. 11. Community members will assemble 3,000 snack packs that will be distributed to low-income children who receive free or reduced-cost school lunches during the week. The grant will pay for 222 of the snack packs.
