1. Albuquerque gets serious about AI with new citywide rules (abq.news) — Albuquerque's City Council has unanimously approved three new ordinances that will govern how city departments and vendors use artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Residents will soon be able to apply for seats on a new advisory board, track AI tools through a public inventory, and review a citywide AI policy that must be updated and reported on annually.
   

2. Albuquerque police say auto thefts are decreasing (kob.com) — Auto thefts in Albuquerque have dropped 32% from 2025 to 2026, which police credit to bait cars, license plate readers, and focused officer work. Two men were recently arrested in connection with stolen vehicles, and a judge will decide whether they remain in custody as police prepare for seasonal theft spikes around the State Fair and Balloon Fiesta.
   

3. Parents and student complaining about hot classrooms at APS (koat.com) — Families in Albuquerque Public Schools are grappling with classroom temperatures reportedly reaching the 90s, as APS works through about 400 cooling-related work orders. Teachers and their union say swamp coolers and aging systems leave rooms unbearably hot, while the district deploys portable units and slowly repairs both swamp and refrigerated air systems across the city.
   

4. Honoring Unclaimed Veterans: Memorial Service in New Mexico (gallupsunweekly.com) — Albuquerque residents are invited to stand in as family for 50 unclaimed U.S. veterans at a full-honors memorial service Sept. 17 at Legacy Church on Wyoming NE. After the 9 a.m. ceremony, law enforcement and veteran riders will escort the urns to Santa Fe National Cemetery, where the public can also attend the burial and pay their respects.
   

5. ARRAY puts $50 million behind a new Albuquerque factory, expanding the U.S. manufacturing footprint behind its solar trackers (energiesmedia.com) — A major solar-tracker manufacturer has opened a new $50 million factory in Albuquerque, tripling its previous local footprint and creating about 300 jobs across production, engineering, and support roles. Founded and long headquartered in Albuquerque, Array Technologies is expanding its U.S. manufacturing presence while local leaders celebrate the project's economic and clean-energy significance for the city and New Mexico.
