1. Fundraiser to benefit Albany workers burned in fuel explosion (timesunion.com) — Albany neighbors are invited to a Saturday fundraiser on Broadway in the warehouse district to support two city employees badly burned in an Aug. 4 fuel explosion at the DGS headquarters in North Albany. The family-friendly event will close part of Broadway, feature local businesses, music, and a CDTA shuttle, and raise money for travel, lodging, and other recovery expenses for Battalion Chief Wayne Brennan and Supervisor Anthony Hughes.
   

2. Albany man sentenced for assault, prison contraband (news10.com) — An Albany man has been sentenced to state prison after assaulting a 61-year-old on Central Avenue and later being found with heroin-fentanyl contraband during intake at Albany County Correctional Facility. Prosecutors say he struck the victim with a liquor bottle, stole his e-bike, and then tried to bring drugs into jail, leading to multiple convictions and concurrent sentences.
   

3. Severe storms leave damage across region, prompt tornado warnings (wnyt.com) — Severe thunderstorms hammered the Capital Region Thursday evening, with the National Weather Service in Albany issuing multiple severe thunderstorm warnings and even a tornado warning north of the area. Strong winds toppled trees, damaged roofs and siding, and caused scattered power outages, with utility crews and emergency responders working into the night to assess damage and restore service.
   

4. Amid Clancy trial, New York lawmakers and advocates look to transform postpartum care (news10.com subscription) — From Albany, state lawmakers and advocates are using the high-profile Lindsay Clancy trial to push for stronger postpartum mental health care across New York. They're backing measures to add maternal mental health training in SUNY and CUNY social work programs and to create coordinated care, telehealth access, and better state resource connections for new mothers.
   

5. Sen. Gonzalez stops in Albany as part of 'Stop Data Centers' tour (timesunion.com) — A statewide "Stop Data Centers" tour stopped at Albany City Hall, where residents and advocates from the South End rallied against a proposed $2 billion data center and tech campus at the former Kenwood Academy site. Speakers urged Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign a stricter moratorium bill, warning about potential strain on resources, pollution burdens in Albany's poorest neighborhoods, and long-term climate and heat impacts.
