Albany Central Warehouse Enters Final Demolition Phase (constructionowners.com) — Demolition of Albany's long-vacant Central Warehouse is now in its final phase, clearing a prominent 1.1‑acre site along I‑787 for future redevelopment. Crews are removing the rail bridge, installing scaffolding, and planning full structural demolition through winter, as state and county officials position the cleared downtown property for new investment and growth.
   

2. State says Albany facing "significant" financial stress with budget deficit (cbs6albany.com) — Albany's finances are under serious strain, with the State Comptroller rating the city in "significant financial stress" after a $22 million budget shortfall this year and a projected $33 million deficit next year. City leaders, including Mayor Dorcey Applyrs, are working with the state on a balanced 2027 budget that aims to protect public safety, maintain services, and support economic vitality for residents.
   

3. Man arrested on assault charges in Albany (newportdispatch.com) — Albany police have arrested 31-year-old Devin S. Brewington in connection with two assaults against the same 47-year-old man near South Pearl Street earlier this year, and he's now being held in Albany County Jail on bail. Investigators are reviewing widely shared videos of additional incidents and are asking anyone with information to contact Albany detectives or submit anonymous tips through Capital Region Crime Stoppers.
   

4. Albany art institute establishes its first endowed position (dailygazette.com) — Albany residents can look forward to stronger, more stable programming at the Albany Institute of History & Art thanks to a major gift creating its first-ever endowed curatorial position. The new Douglas Lloyd Cohn Director of Curatorial Affairs role, currently held by Diane Shewchuk, is designed to permanently support exhibitions, scholarship, and public access, helping secure the museum's future as a cultural anchor for the city.
   

5. Chief Judge Advocates for Expansion of Civil Legal Aid - New York State Bar Association (nysba.org) — Albany hosted a major statewide hearing where New York's chief judge and bar leaders pushed to expand civil legal aid funding and roles for non-lawyer advocates. Testimony highlighted rural attorney shortages, nonprofit contracting delays, and powerful client stories, with findings headed to the Legislature and the Permanent Commission on Access to Justice.
