Suffolk police announce arrest Saturday.

A Manhattan man has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of North Amityville’s Dionel Ramirez, who was struck and killed by his own car while he attempted to prevent the man from stealing the vehicle in North Bay Shore last month, Suffolk police said Saturday.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested 48-year-old Edwin Gutierrez Friday at his residence at 559 West 156th St.

According to police, Ramirez, 69, had parked his Hyundai in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven located at 148 Pine Aire Drive and left the vehicle running with the door open at about 5:45 a.m. on Nov. 28.

Ramirez was at the store picking up excess food to bring to a soup kitchen when Gutierrez entered his vehicle and attempted to drive away, police said.
