Pair Charged in Thefts From Vehicles Outside Gyms

Two women stole keys from unlocked lockers or coats at the gyms, police say.

Two women have been arrested and charged with stealing purses and wallets from vehicles parked outside gyms in Centereach and Bay Shore over the past month, police said Friday.

According to police, Alexandra Salata, of Ronkonkoma, and Christina Nicosia, of Centereach, went to Planet Fitness locations on Middle Country Road in Centereach and Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore several times between Nov. 13 and Dec. 1.

While there, one of the women entered the gym locker room and stole car keys from unlocked lockers or coats, police said.

The woman inside walked toward the front of the gym and pushed the key fob as the woman outside located the vehicle, police said. The person outside stole items from the vehicle and the woman inside returned the keys, police said.

The women used credit cards stolen from the vehicles to make purchases at various locations, police said.

Following an investigations Salata, 27, and Nicosia, 26, were each charged with five counts of fourth degree grand larceny.

They were scheduled for arraignment Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
