Electronic Greeting Card in Mailbox Causes Scare

Main Street in Babylon shut down for a couple of hours Monday after a passerby heard a buzzing sound coming from a mailbox, police say.

Police rushed to Babylon Village Monday morning after a 911 caller reported an intermittent buzzing sound coming from a United States Postal Service mailbox on Main Street.

The cause of the scare: an electronic greeting card.

Emergency Service officers took x-rays of the mailbox and it was determined the sound was coming from the card inside, police said.

The 911 call came in at 9:15 a.m. and Main Street was closed from Deer Park Avenue to Thompson Avenue for about two hours. All businesses on Main Street from N. Carll Avenue to Deer Park Avenue were also evacuated during the scare.
