Police: Teen Driver Was on Drugs, Racing in Southern State Crash

Four people were injured in early morning crash.

A Brentwood teen was on drugs and racing another vehicle when he crashed into the woods off the Southern State Parkway in North Babylon early Friday, State Police said.

The driver, Khalique Owens, 18, and two passengers in the 2008 Honda Sol suffered minor injuries in the crash that occurred around 2:20 a.m. A third passenger, the most seriously injured, "sustained a fracture to her spine," police said. 

Owens is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, several traffic violations including unauthorized speed contest and unlawful possession of marijuana. 

Police said Owens had been racing a 2013 Hyundai Elantra at the time of the crash. The driver of the Hyundai, Richard Serrano, 18, of Bay Shore, is charged with unauthorized speed contest and other traffic violations.

Two other people were arrested after they "attempted to evade traffic control efforts" following the crash, police said. Adrian Resto, 34, of Bay Shore, is charged with felony DWI and Dagoberto Carballo, 26, of Brentwood, is charged with misdemeanor DWI.
