Man Leads Cops On 9-Mile Car Chase That Ends Crash: Police

After crashing into a cop car, the two occupants tried to run away, police say. One of the men is still at large.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - A Medford man was arrested after leading officers on a car case from Bay Shore to North Bellport ending after he crashed into a cop car on Wednesday night, according to Suffolk Police.

A Highway Patrol officer attempted to pull over a man, identified as 23-year-old Trevon Johnson, driving a 2013 Dodge Charger for speeding on southbound Brentwood Road near Sunrise Highway at 11:30 p.m., police said.

The driver of the Dodge drove his vehicle into the front end of the patrol car, then fled westbound on Union Boulevard through Bay Shore before heading eastbound on Southern Parkway to the Sunrise Highway Service Road eastbound where it struck a Third Precinct patrol car, police said.

The Charger continued eastbound before getting off Sunrise Highway at Exit 55 where it headed eastbound on Route 101 before stopping the at the corner of Bayview Avenue and Brookhaven Avenue in North Bellport at 11:50 p.m., police said.

The two men in the car then fled the scene on foot, police said.

Officers apprehended Johnson on Michigan Avenue in North Bellport at 11:59 p.m., police said.

The second man has not yet been located. There were no injuries.

Johnson was charged with second degree harassment and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

The investigation is continuing.

Johnson was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning.
