Town Officials Tear Down Neglected Bay Shore Home
The E. 3rd Avenue home was demolished after it was deemed unsafe by the town's chief building inspector.

BAY SHORE, NY - An unsafe neglected Bay Shore home was demolished on Monday after being vacant for several years.
Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and members of the Islip Town Board as well as other Town officials were on site at the home on 1628 E. 3rd Avenue during the demolition.

The property was destroyed after the town's chief building inspector found the property to be in immediate danger of collapse due to structural failure, disrepair, and neglect.

In addition, overgrown vegetation posed a fire hazard to the house as well as the neighboring houses.
“Houses like these aren’t just an eyesore that bring down the property values of responsible homeowners, but are also health hazards to our neighborhoods,” Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. “We are going to work vigorously to eliminate the threat to the welfare of our neighborhoods that is posed by these houses.”

In 2015, the Town Board amended the Town Code to speed up the demolition process.
The amendments to the Town Code allow public nuisances, like the E. 3rd Avenue home, to be addressed more efficiently.
