APEC Program to Teach Grade School Students About Wildlife, Plants
Students will be able to venture into Alley Pond Park's wetlands and meadows to listen to and learn about birds and insects.

will host a program later this month that will teach grade school students about the animals and plants that inhabit northeast Queens.
APEC Explorers, which is for students entering second and third grade, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on July 30 as well as Aug. 1, 6, 8, 13 and 15.
Participants will wander through Alley Pond Park’s woodlands, meadows, wetlands and pond habitats, where they will listen for birds, crickets and cicadas.

The program will incorporate science tools, games, journal entries and special projects to teach youngsters aboubt the animals and plants that live in Alley Pond Park.
A snack will be included. Children should bring insect repellent with them.

The event is limited to 12 participants, so those interested should pre-register by calling 718-229-4000.
Members will pay $102 to take part in the program, while the fee for non-members is $114.
Alley Pond Environmental Center is located at 228-06 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston.
