Walgreens Dumps Prescription Pills On Bed-Stuy Street: Residents

"This is a horror show," resident Emily Harting wrote on Twitter. "Walgreens - do better."

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN -- Residents are furious that a Bed-Stuy pharmacy keeps dumping mounds of pharmacy detritus outside its Fulton Street store.

Prescription pills and bottles with patients' personal information are piling up outside the Walgreens on Fulton Street near Nostrand Avenue, according to residents who say the practice is unsanitary and potentially dangerous.

"This is a horror show," Emily Harting wrote in a Twitter post that included a photo of bottles spilling onto the sidewalk. "Walgreens - do better."

Walgreens did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment, but replied to Harting's tweet on Sept. 6.

"These concerns have been documented and will be reported to the appropriate team members to be addressed," the company wrote. "Sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused."

But resident Peter Pucka, who told ABC7NY the trash has been drawing rats, noted the national pharmacy store chain had promised to fix the situation before, but had yet to implement a secure medication disposal system.

"They responded several times and said we'll take care of it," Pucka told ABC reporters. "We didn't see an improvement."

"That's obviously disturbing for many reasons," another resident added. "Anyone can see what should be confidential information, but also just shouldn't be on the street."
