The Gateway Space Could Reopen As The Broadway After Shutdown
A business called The Broadway has applied for a liquor license in the former Brooklyn DIY venue space on Broadway, city records show.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- A new bar called The Broadway could open in the space left vacant by The Gateway, a beloved DIY venue forced to shut down when a massive police raid landed owners with $40,000 in fines, city records show.
Business owner Damien Nevin of Hells Bells LLC applied for an onsite liquor license at 1272 Broadway on Jan. 18, city records show. It appears the new venue could be a large one, as Hells Bells LLC has requested permission to build another bar inside the space.
The Broadway space has stood vacant since The Gateway was forced to close on May 23 and failed to raise money to pay fines on its KickStarter campaign, owner Ned Shatzer told Brooklyn Bowery.

The Gateway hosted Latin Punk Fests, Haute Sauce parties and performances from drag queens "that were so hot they melted everyone’s faces" and other DIY events during their three years in the two-story space, owners wrote in a farewell Facebook post on June 15.
"We were so close to becoming what we visualized the space to be and finally got ourselves to the point where we had a solid flow and then BOOM, we’re out!" The Gateway team wrote. "Lol. You can’t make this s--- up."
