Luna The Rescue Puppy Is Lost in Bed-Stuy
Missing puppy Luna escaped from her owner Saturday morning on the corner of Pulaski Street and Marcy Avenue.
BEDFORD STUYVESANT, NY — An eight-month-old rescue dog named Luna is missing in Bed-Stuy.
The mutt bolted after being startled on the street Saturday, according to her owner Julia Romano, 29.
Romano’s boyfriend Nathan Maggio, 30, was untying Luna’s leash from a post on the corner of Pulaski Street and Marcy Avenue around 11:15 a.m. on April 1 when a man started shouting and scared her, Romano said.

“She’s kind and she’s gentle,” Romano told Patch Monday. “Not aggressive, never bitten anybody, just very scared.
“She just bolted."

Romano and Maggio adopted Luna — who came from Georgia — a month ago from the New York animal shelter In Our Hands Rescue.

The couple take Luna for runs on the beach, to local dog park and even make her dog food from turkey meat, sweet potatoes and oats, Romano said.
Because Luna didn’t have a lot of positive human contact before she was rescued, she is very nervous, Romano said.
“We’ve helped her come out of her shell,” Romano said. “She’s not really a puppy until she’s comfortable, then she’s a total puppy."

Romano describes Luna as a black and brown 35-pound mutt which was wearing a red quilted jacket and an identity tag.
She was last seen on the corner of Flushing and Cypress avenues in Bushwick early Sunday morning by a police officer who contacted the couple, Romano said.
Romano asks anyone who spots Luna — who is microchipped — not to approach but call Romano directly at (917) 596-5377 or contact the Animal Care Center at 212.788.4000.
Romano hopes that Luna has tired herself out and is hiding somewhere until her owners can come find her.
“She’s just the sweetest dog,” Romano said. “She’ become a part of the family.”
