BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A disturbing video released by police this week shows the moment a shooter opened fire on a 27-year-old man in the middle of a Bed-Stuy street earlier this month.

The shooting broke out just before 7 p.m. near the corner of Delmonico Place and Park Avenue on Friday, July 3, police said.

The shooter, dressed in a full red sweat suit, can be seen in the video running into the street from behind a parked car just as the victim, who appears to be on the phone, walks into the road.

The suspect fires four times at the man, hitting him three times in the chest and once in the abdomen, according to police.

The man was taken to Woodhull Hospital in critical condition and has since been released, police said.

The suspect ran away toward Ellery Street after the shooting, police said.

The shooting is one of several in the neighborhood cops are investigating as the officials face a citywide spike in gun violence.

Police also recently released video of a fatal drive-by shooting in Bed-Stuy.

Activists have held a "Cease Fire Peace Walk" and "Stop the Violence Town Hall" in Bed-Stuy hoping to address the shooting surge in the area.

Citywide, shootings have spiked more than 200 percent in the last few weeks, compared to the same time period last year. North Brooklyn has been a particular hot-spot for the gun violence, seeing more than 85 shootings in the last 28 days compared to just 14 during the same period in 2019, according to NYPD data.
