Bedford Attorney Drops Out Of Race For 37th Senate District

The county Republicans will meet Wednesday to determine who will run on the GOP line in the special election.

BEDFORD, NY — A Bedford attorney looking to fill the state Senate seat vacated by George Latimer has dropped out of the running. Sarad Khojasteh said his campaign for the Republican slot in a special election was over as of Monday.

He said he will support former Rye Councilwoman Julie Killian who will be vying to be selected by Westchester County Republicans along with former Yonkers inspector general Dan Schorr, of White Plains, the Journal News said.

County GOP members will meet Wednesday to make their choice for the Republican candidate.

Whoever gets the GOP nod will face Yonkers Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, a Democrat, for the special election which is expected to be in April.

The seat became available when Latimer was elected Westchester county executive.

The 37th District contains parts of the cities of Yonkers, White Plains and New Rochelle as well as Bedford, Harrison, Mamaroneck, North Castle and Rye.
