Hudson Valley Woman Dies From Injuries in Easter Sunday Bombings

KATONAH, NY — A Westchester woman who was critically injured in Sri Lanka in the bombings Easter Sunday died of her injuries May 5. Chelsea M. Decaminada of Katonah was on assignment with the U.S. Department of Commerce when bombs were detonated by suicide bombers April 21 in churches and homes.

Decaminada was a Peace Corps volunteer and a 2011 graduate of John Jay High School in Cross River, according to a statement from Westchester County Executive George Latimer.

"Chelsea was a dedicated public servant who was on assignment with the Office of the General Counsel — and as noted by the United States Department of Treasury — served her country with distinction," he said.

"Please join me in offering condolences to the Decaminada family during this difficult time," Latimer said.

Officials said more almost 300 people were killed and 500 wounded after terrorists set off bombs that targeted nine churches, luxury hotels and other sites.

The bombings cause massive damage, blowing out windows and collapsing ceilings during Easter Sunday worship services.
