John Jay High School 'Junior Statesmen' Win in Competition
The group recently competed in Boston.

Members of the John Jay High School’s Junior Statesmen of America team recently returned from their Northeast Fall State Convention in Boston, bringing home several awards, school officials announced.
Best speaker awards, or gavels, went to Meghan Howes, Sam Howes, Alyssa Loffredo and Aiyana Lewis for their speeches and debate exchanges. They were chosen by their fellow delegates for their ability to persuade the audience and impart a greater understanding of the issues involved in their particular debate.
These student delegates, along with more than 350 delegates from 25 other schools in the northeast region, debated issues ranging from the economy to foreign policy and the environment. They were challenged to articulate their views, and also engaged each other through debates and thought talks, mock trials and other simulations, which critically examined the political landscape.
