Large Portions of Crashed Plane Found in North Salem Lake

The plane carried Val and Taew Horsa, whose remains were discovered in Titicus Reservoir on Friday.

Large portions of the crashed plane that carried Val and Taew Horsa were discovered Saturday afternoon submerged in Titicus Reservoir in North Salem, reports The Journal News.

Divers with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, the lead agency in the underwater search, also found a large debris field in the lake that contained more parts of the plane. These discoveries have been marked but have not been entirely pulled from the water, a process that was slated to begin Sunday.

Once the pieces of the plane have been pulled from the water, investigators can begin the work of determining what caused the crash.

The Horsas of South Salem were the only two people aboard the small, four-seat plane that crashed Thursday afternoon, according to their son, Eric Horsa of Ridgefield, Conn. He said their remains were discovered Friday afternoon, but officials have only said that human remains have been found, and they have yet to formally announce that those remains are the Horsas.

The couple were returning to the area from a trip to Mississippi, and were due to land at nearby Danbury Airport when their plane went down.
