Katonah-Lewisboro Voters Say Yes To Budget, Hybrid School Buses

The new spending plan of $119,988,980 is 3.64 percent higher than the previous budget.

CROSS RIVER, NY — The polls have closed and the votes are counted — the unofficial results of the Katonah-Lewisboro election are in.

The 2023 budget and school board vote included two seats up for election on the Katonah-Lewisboro School District Board of Education.

The proposed spending plan of $119,988,980 is 3.64 percent higher than the current budget.

The budget was approved by voters.

The tax levy is expected to rise 1.56 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.

According to the school board, "next year's school budget was developed to reflect our commitment to outstanding education and to responsible spending. It supports implementatio of next generation science standards, classrooms conducive to innovative teaching and learning, and necessary resources to meet the educational needs of all students."

Two board seats were up for election. Candidates on the ballot included: Lorraine Gallagher and Bill Swertfager. Samantha Hirsch ran as a write-in candidate. Gallagher and Swertfager won these seats.

A proposition for bus replacement with electric, hybrid or fuel vehicles was also on the ballot. The proposition was passed by voters.
