Voters Approve North Salem School District Budget By Wide Margin
The approved spending plan of $49,332,136 is 3.07 percent higher than the previous budget.

NORTH SALEM, NY — The polls have closed and the votes are counted — the unofficial results of the North Salem School District election are in.
The 2023 budget and school board vote included two seats on the North Salem School District Board of Education.
The proposed spending plan of $49,332,136 is 3.07 percent higher than the current budget.

The tax levy is expected to rise 2.57 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.
The budget was approved by a vote 583 to 186.

According to the school board, they "prioritized several key areas: maintaining low class sizes, sustaining the district's focus on learning readiness, continuing our mental health initiatives and providing safe transportation. The budget also includes new school safety and security initiatives, a multitude of technology upgrades and our ongoing commitment to facility upgrades."
Two board seats were up for election. Candidates running included: Carolyn Aversano, Christopher Jaeger, A. Kurt Guldan, and Matthew DeRose. Aversano and Guldan won these seats.
A proposition for districtwide safety and security upgrades, including window fortification, site deterrants, door/door hardware replacement, building and door access controls and security cameras, was also on the ballot. This proposition passed.
