Kennedy High Educator Named 'Master Teacher'
Bellmore-Merrick science teacher Alexis Vandergoot named a 2015 Science Master Teacher.

Kennedy High School science teacher Alexis Vandergoot was recently named a 2015 Science Master Teacher under New York State’s Master Teacher Program, run on Long Island by SUNY Stony Brook University.
Vandergoot is one of 70 Master Teachers selected on Long Island since the program was created in 2013 at the behest of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Consideration for a Master Teacher designation requires submitting a personal statement, letters of recommendation, completing a content exam and undergoing a lengthy interview process. In addition, teachers must provide innovative STEM lesson materials to qualify.
Vandergoot, working in the district since 2009, teaches chemistry, living environment, college anatomy, marine biology and collaborative environmental science. She is the Science Club and Science Olympiad advisor and was the assistant coach for the girls varsity lacrosse team from 2010-2013.
