The Chapel School’s Second Grade Candy House Creations
Bronxville, NY- Gum drops, jelly beans, licorice sticks, and candy canes were just some of the many sweet treats used to decorate elaborate candy houses in The Chapel School. The second graders at The Chapel School were busy architects and landscapers creating a delicious and beautiful candy house. This annual tradition has brought excitement and joy to the 2nd graders. The students became little artists meticulously decorating every inch on their candy house. Second graders produced these sugary domains for two reasons. First, the candy houses became lovely centerpieces to be used by families throughout the holiday season. Second, as they created these houses, students learned hands-on math: children planned, measured and used patterning to put the pieces of their masterpieces together!
“They were extremely proud of their creations and eager to show off their work,” stated Second Grade Teacher Mrs. Hillier. The children LOVE this project! This is a fun project that manages to keep the 2nd graders' attention during an exciting time of the year. “Besides having fun, they learn lots of skills such as counting, patterning, and fine-motor planning,” she added. The end result is a happy child and a beautiful centerpiece for Christmas celebrations!
