The Chapel School Second Graders Visit Botanical Garden

Bronxville, NY- On October 12, 2018, The Chapel School second graders went on a field trip to The New York Botanical Garden to celebrate the season of all. The students had been learning about different types of plants, the role of each part of a plant and their life cycle. They were able to put their knowledge to use and also gain a greater understanding through hands on activities at the garden. The second graders investigated gourds and giant pumpkins while learning about pumpkin diversity and the life cycle of a pumpkin. “Wow look at the one it’s gigantic,” exclaimed one student. Each child had an opportunity to explore pumpkin seeds and observe the germination process. This field trip connected with a recent science unit the students had been studying about plants.
