Emily Dearden Arraigned this Morning on Attempted Murder Charges in Connection with Alleged Shooting of Her Husband

The Yonkers resident - and NYPD psychologist - is accused of shooting her husband, Kenneth Dearden, in the head while he slept. He survived.

Emily Dearden, 47, of Yonkers was arraigned Thursday on attempted murder and related charges in connection with the alleged shooting of husband, Kenneth Dearden, in November 2013, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced.

In all, Dearden, a psychologist with the NYPD, is facing a seven-count indictment:

  • one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B” Felony,
  • one count of Assault in the First Degree, a class ”B” Felony,
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony,
  • four counts of Criminal Possession of a firearm, class “E” Felonies,

“One of the most troubling aspects of the allegations in this indictment is that whatever may have precipitated the defendant’s actions against her husband, they were carried out just feet from where their children were sleeping,” said DiFiore in a statement, adding that if convicted, Dearden faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
