Leake & Watts Names Angela White Superintendent of Schools
Dr. White Brings Years of Experience as an Educator And Advocate For Children With Special Needs to The Biondi Schools
Alan Mucatel, executive director of Leake & Watts, announced today that Angela White, an experienced educator whose specialty is working with students with disabilities, has joined the award-winning nonprofit agency as superintendent of schools, overseeing the Biondi School’s elementary, middle, and high schools.
Dr. White, a resident of Newburgh, New York, previously held the position of assistant superintendent of elementary education and administrative services of the Ossining School District and was responsible for curriculum, instruction, and assessment for general education and special education instructional programs. Prior to that, she held principal positions at two Ossining-based schools: Brookside School and the Roosevelt Alternative School. Earlier in her career, Dr. White served the students of District 75/Citywide Programs for 15 years in positions that include: elementary and middle school reading specialist, coordinator of Title I Reading Program, director of Funded Programs, assistant to the superintendent, and elementary principal.
“Angela has a passion and energy for supporting children who face diverse learning challenges, and we know her leadership will help the Biondi School further advance our mission to help our students to thrive not only while they are with us, but beyond graduation,” said Mr. Mucatel. “She’s been a strong advocate for children, a valuable ally for parents, and a supporter of teachers and staff throughout her career. We are excited to have her wealth of experience here to enhance our learning environment and continue the growth of our program.”

A Superintendent With Clear Goals
While receiving her Masters degree at Teacher’s College at Columbia University, Dr. White participated in special education courses and internships and soon realized that a career focused on special education was her calling. After retiring from the Ossining Union Free School District, a colleague recommended that she reach out to Leake & Watts, and she was soon on the path to obtain her “dream position in education.”

Dr. White said in her new role, “My goal is to continue the work that has already been started and to provide rigorous and relevant instruction for students, but also to ensure that when they graduate, they are able to fully engage in the community and successfully pursue economic opportunities. I want to give the Biondi School students strategies to help them deal with social and emotional challenges, in addition to academic challenges, by focusing on the whole child.”
Dr. White earned her undergraduate degree from Long Island University, her M. A. from Teachers College at Columbia University, and a degree of Doctor of Education from Fordham University Graduate School of Education. In 2006, the New York State Council of School Superintendents presented the “Pathways to Leadership Scholarship” to Dr. White in recognition of professional and academic credentials coupled with promise in the field of educational administration including the Superintendency.
