Yonkers School District to Receive $25 Million from the State, Cuomo Says
The money is help the district avoid huge layoffs and program cuts.

The Yonkers School District will receive $25 million from the state to help avoid layoffs and program cuts next year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday.
Last week, Cuomo unveiled a $100 million aid package for distressed school districts throughout the state, of which Yonkers is one. But that funding appears to have been reduced or eliminated from the final state budget agreement, but Yonkers will still receive $25 million, reports The Journal News.
The district had built up a $55 million budget shortfall over the past couple of years due to an accounting error. For next year, the deficit was slated to be about $26 million, so the state’s funding will essentially cover the discrepancy.
