📰 News we're reading

1. Seneca Nation confirms Buffalo fuel station, neighbors and councilmember concerned (wkbw.com) — A new Seneca One Stop fuel station is being built on Seneca Nation land along Ohio Street in Buffalo's Old First Ward, across from Tewksbury Lodge. While Nation leaders say it will boost economic activity and ease congestion at another station, nearby business owners and Councilmember Mitch Nowakowski are voicing concerns about its fit with the neighborhood and limited local input.

2. Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens, M&T Bank offer free admission for kids 'Growing Back To School' for month of September (wnypapers.com) — Families in Buffalo can bring kids 12 and under to the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens for free admission all September, thanks to a partnership with M&T Bank. Along with exploring the greenhouses, children can enjoy seed planting, crafts, scavenger hunts, and the new Scarecrow Trail exhibit, making it an easy afterschool or weekend outing close to home.

3. 2 dead after police chase ends in crash in Buffalo (newportdispatch.com) — Two people have died after a police chase that started in West Seneca ended with a stolen vehicle crashing into a building at Jefferson Avenue and George Street in Buffalo early Thursday. Five occupants were taken to local hospitals, and multiple agencies, including Buffalo Police and the state Attorney General's Office, are now investigating the circumstances of the pursuit and crash.

4. When 'the entire internet is fake,' can you trust a newspaper's promise to create a social media following? (san.com) — Buffalo residents who rely on The Buffalo News should know the paper has hosted sponsored articles promoting services that sell fake social media followers and engagement. A media watchdog report questions how clearly these pieces are labeled as advertising and warns that such content can legitimize shady platforms tied to botnets, scams, and deceptive online influence campaigns.

5. Toronto got 150 mm of rain in a few hours. Then look at what happened everywhere else (investmentwatchblog.com) — Significant flash flooding in Buffalo saw 1.77 inches of rain fall at the airport in just one hour, the second-highest one-hour total on record there. The piece compiles dramatic videos and reports of severe storms and flooding from Toronto, New York State, the D.C. region and around the world, underscoring how widespread extreme weather has been this week.
