Chappaqua DAR Chapter Honors The Fallen at Memorial Day Parade
(Chappaqua, NY) Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR remembers the sacrifices of U.S. military personnel at the 2024 New Castle Memorial Day Parade.
Polly Cooper, a local chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) participated in the New Castle Memorial Day parade held on Monday, May 27. The chapter marched in honor of and to remember the military personnel throughout our nation’s history who gave their lives for the United States.
“We are so appreciative that the Town of New Castle hosts this annual tribute. Today is an important day of remembrance and is personal for our members, said Chapter Regent Rosemarie Schmidt, “Many of us have a historical connection to the first military personnel of our country and one of the missions of the Daughters of the American Revolution is to promote patriotism which includes honoring our nation’s fallen heroes, thanking the sacrifice of veterans and their families to protect our freedoms, and share love of country. Seeing all the American Flags waving during the parade was fantastic. The chapter handed out flags to parade attendees and the joy on everyone’s faces, especially the children, is special to witness.”
Kathy Schreiber has lived in Chappaqua for 28 years and helped organize the local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter seven years ago. “I used to watch the parade from the sidelines, but then the Polly Cooper Chapter participated in the 2018 parade, a year after we organized, and it is so uplifting and fun to experience the parade from the marcher’s perspective: the smiles, cheers, and positive energy from the crowd and display of united community spirit is amazing. I also encourage everyone to take a moment and look at the New York Military Tribute Banners that are being displayed around town until Veterans Day: these are some of the names and faces behind the freedoms that have been hard fought for us to have a day like today in our wonderful town.”
