Ex-Drama Teacher Accused of Abusing Students Appears in Court

Chappaqua, NY — The former high school drama teacher who has been accused of sexually abusing students appeared in court Thursday and left the building to parents and community members yelling the word “pedophile” at him.

Christopher Schraufnagel, 41, was in the New Castle Town Court regarding the third-degree criminal sex act and misdemeanor sexual abuse charges leveled against him, according to an article at the Journal News.

The criminal case was adjourned until August 4, because the county assistant district attorney and Schraufnagel’s lawyer said they were in discussions, FIOS1 News said.

Schraufnagel resigned from his job at Horace Greeley High School September 4 after teaching 12 years at Greeley.

Students who said they were abused by him and are suing the school district were blamed for "recklessness" by the district's lawyers in court, adding that the district denies any responsibility in the alleged abuse.
