NEW CASTLE, NY — Officials in New Castle say they might quit using Mount Kisco to provide fire protection for properties in the north side corner of town, the Examiner reports. That's the Northern Fire Protection District, one of New Castle's three fire districts.

They are exploring possibilities because they're concerned about the hike in fire district taxes the 1,385 parcel owners in that district are experiencing because Mount Kisco is spending $14 million to renovate its firehouses.

The other two fire districts in town are Millwood and New Castle. Millwood fire district residents are already paying off a new firehouse.
