NSDAR Chapters Support Deployed Military With Valentine Care Packages

Bedford, NY - Three regional chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution came together in a spirit of sisterhood and created Valentine’s Day themed care packages for 30 female active-duty service members stationed overseas on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Members of the Polly Cooper Chapter ( Chappaqua), Shatemuc Chapter (Stony Point) and White Plains Chapter ( White Plains) donated socks, food, coffee/tea, candy, magazines and personal care items to include in each care package. The packages were shipped to arrive in time for Valentine’s Day, to remind troops of how much they are appreciated.

Shatemuc Regent, Dina Cannavale, reflected, " As an organization founded to honor the legacy of the men and women who secured America's independence, DAR deeply values the continued service and sacrifice of those who defend our freedom today. (Their) dedication, courage, and commitment reflect the same spirit of patriotism that inspired our patriot ancestors more than two centuries ago."

This sentiment was echoed in notes included in each box by Polly Cooper Honorary Regent, Rosemarie Schmidt, as she noted , "As we begin celebrating America 250! Stateside, it is with a full appreciation that we would not be able to enjoy our freedoms and celebrate our great nation's semiquincentennial if it wasn't for our military- dating back as early as the American Revolution." Additional notes of gratitude and thanks were added by White Plains Chapter Regent Perri McCammon and Polly Cooper Regent Judy Carey.

Additional items are being collected to send to Landsthul's Chaplain's Closet, at Landsthul Regional Medical Center in Germany. The Chaplain's Clothes Closet started in 2001 at the onset of Operation Enduring Freedom and provides a variety of comfort items to wounded U.S. Service members when they are evacuated to LRMC for treatment.
