Polly Cooper Chapter Regent, Rosemarie Schmidt and NYS DAR Community Chair Kathleen Schreiber represented their Chapter at a ceremony honoring the memory of Revolutionary War Heroine Margaret Cochran Corbin, held May 7, 2024 at the Old Cadet Chapel, on the grounds of the US Military Academy at West Point.

Seventy-five members of the NSDAR from all over New York State attended this annual event which is in its 98th year.

Cadet Amrita Kuar, Class of 2025, spoke to the impact of Corbin as a role model to female Cadets. Margaret Corbin took up her husband’s position at the cannon after he was killed during the Battle of Fort Washington. She was subsequently wounded in battle and became the first American woman to receive a military pension in recognition of her service.
