UPDATE: Former Greeley Teacher Pleads Guilty in Student Sex Case

The plea deal includes restrictions on where he lives and works.

Former drama teacher Christopher Schraufnagel pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child in a plea deal entered in New Castle town court Thursday night.

He had originally been charged by police with one count of third-degree criminal sex act, a felony; plus two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and four counts of third-degree sexual abuse, all misdemeanors.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty said that Schraufnagel, 41, of 55 Cooper St., in New York City admitted subjecting two of the three victims to sexual contact.

Under the terms of the proposed plea agreement, he will face three years of probation with sex offender conditions which will include work, residency restrictions as well as sex offender treatment. He will also be required to surrender his New York State Teaching Certificate.

The deal still must be reviewed and formally OK'd by the judge. Schraufnagel is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 10.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Clark-DiRusso of the Special Prosecutions Division prosecuted the case.

Schraufnagel still faces lawsuits filed by five students who allege improper sexual encounters.

He had taught speech and theater for 12 years at Horace Greeley High School. He was placed on paid leave in June 2015 after accusations surfaced and administrators began investigating his interaction with students. He resigned at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, in September.
