Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR Pays Tribute to 250 years at the 2026 New Castle Memorial Day Parade

The Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR proudly participated in the 2026 New Castle Memorial Day Parade, joining the community in honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Members marched alongside local veterans, first responders, civic and community organizations, and school groups in remembrance of America’s fallen heroes. The chapter shared its patriotic spirit with parade attendees by giving out hand-held U.S. flags along the parade route.

Chapter Regent Judy Carey shared her appreciation for the strong community turnout:

“Seeing the support of everyone lined up to view the parade — especially the many young people watching and participating — is inspiring and shows that appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our military and their family members, along with the spirit of patriotism and service, is enduring. On Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country, and we also think about the many who currently put themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedoms. Every community must remember our nation’s history and those who defended it.”

For members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Memorial Day carries a deeply personal meaning as many have ancestors who were the first Americans to fight and die for the freedoms our nation enjoys today. Rosemarie Schmidt, who is the chapter’s Service to Veterans Chair – a chapter committee dedicated to volunteering for and honoring American veterans--reflected on the day:

"Marching in this Memorial Day parade is always special, but during this time of the America 250 observances, it carries even greater significance. We honor the men and women who served our country and helped shape our nation’s 250-year story.”
