Polly Cooper Chapter supports Teacher Appreciation Week

Ardsley Union Free School 2nd grade teacher, Rebecca Schiz, receives surprise visit by local DAR chapter

Local Daughters of the American Revolution, Polly Cooper Chapter were pleased to recognize Ardsley Union Free School second grade teacher, Rebecca Schiz, during Teacher Appreciation Week. Ms. Schiz was presented a DAR certificate of appreciation, several age-appropriate books to supplement the classroom library and a few supplies and thank you gifts.

NYS DAR Community Classroom Chair, Kari Kjontvedt Weis, discussed that one of the DAR pillars is education and the important role our community classrooms play in educating our young, promoting literacy and enhancing not only academics but also social and emotional skills in their students.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members descend from patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With 178,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.
