The Polly Cooper Chapter was privileged to co-host an afternoon tea at the historic Thayer Hotel on April 20, 2024, with honored guest and special guest speaker, NY DAR State Regent, Mrs. Pamela Neth Barrack. With 50 DAR members from various DAR chapters and guests in attendance, it was a wonderful opportunity for members of this national organization to meet and socialize with one another while learning about Mrs. Barrack’s State Regent Project.

Shortly after the 150th anniversary of the American Revolution, the NYDAR Saratoga Battlefield Memorial Committee set a goal to create an appropriate memorial to Saratoga soldiers. With the erection of the “Monument to the American Unknown Dead” which was surrounded by a grove of elm trees, benches and the Fort Neilson marker, NYS DAR members were privileged in 1931 to be the first to honor the unknown American patriots who lost their lives in Saratoga to give this nation a new birth.

Now, on the eve of our nation’s 250th anniversary, Mrs. Pamela Barrack has chosen to restore, conserve and renew these historic assets at Saratoga, including the grove of elm trees that succumbed to Dutch elm disease several decades ago, as her State Regent’s Project.

Mrs. Barrack has been working diligently since then to raise awareness of her project and procure the funding needed to see its successful completion.

Polly Cooper Chapter Regent, Rosemarie Schmidt, along with Enoch Crosby Chapter Regent Joan Hay were delighted to present pledges and checks in a combined amount of approximately $1000 in “Spirit of Saratoga 1777” sponsorships towards the State Regent’s project.

During the presentation of the sponsorships, Mrs. Barrack was thanked for her work in preserving the legacy of the unknown soldiers who fought for America’s independence and for her dedication in honoring these patriots.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation's children. Its members are descended from patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With 190,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations.
