I am so happy to tell you some of the reasons I LOVE coconut oil!
There is so much buzz in the “Healthy Living” world about coconut oil these days (I have been a fan for years!). So, I thought I would chime in and tell you some of the ways I use coconut oil and how you can too. Bottom line – I truly believe that you practically could keep a jar of organic (of course) coconut oil in almost every room in your house and find a use for it!
Here goes:

KITCHEN
1. Coconut oil has a higher smoking point than other oils, which makes it the best choice for frying and sautéing.
2. Add a spoonful into your protein shakes or smoothies. Coconut oil helps your body to run “regularly” and also helps to keep you feeling full. As a result, it can actually help you lose weight!!!
3. Substitute in baking for butter – but remember to melt it before you add it to the other ingredients.
BATHROOM
1. “Oil pulling” has become really popular. Basically you take a tablespoon or so (actually whatever you can handle – bigger months can accommodate more) and put it in your mouth, let it melt and start swishing. Start out with 10 minutes and build up if you can (some sources recommend 15-20 minutes). Do not swallow the coconut oil!!! Instead, spit it into a paper towel or directly into the garbage. The many benefits of oil pulling include whiter teeth, healthier gums, fresher breath, as well as the whole process helping to pull toxins from your body and literally spit them out. A side benefit, for me, is that it feels sort of like a meditation as you focus on the swishing and let your mind wander. Oil pulling can be done in the shower or while you are getting dressed. My husband loves that I actually am completely quiet for at least 15 minutes!!!!
2. Before you get in the shower, take some coconut oil and rub it onto your body – especially yours arms and legs. Then head into the shower and let the coconut oil sink in. When you come out you will not be greasy at all and your skin will be super smooth and hydrated.
3. If you have dry scalp or are experiencing some hair loss, massage some coconut oil into your scalp and let it soak in for a while (even overnight), shampoo as usual and see the results.
4. Coconut oil also suffocates any nits that your kids may bring home, so it is a healthy alternative lice treatment.
