Westchester DAR Sends Heartfelt Appreciation to Military Women
(Bedford, NY) Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR sent Valentine care packages to active-duty service women and cards to New York Veterans

Members of the Polly Cooper Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution gathered at the Bedford Free Library in January to pack Valentine’s Day-themed care packages for active-duty military women serving overseas. This event was planned by the chapter’s DAR Project Patriot Committee which supports America’s service members and their families. Participants purchased and wrapped more than 1500 items based on recommendations for deployed personnel and donated funds for shipping costs. The boxes were filled with snacks, personal care items, reading and stationery materials as well as fun gifts to send comfort and support to the women serving away from home.

Each care package included a pocket size copy of the US Constitution booklet containing the text of the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, facts about the Supreme Court and more. The chapter holds its "Project Patriot Party" each year as one way to let service members know that their contribution is recognized and appreciated.

Through its DAR Service to Veterans Committee, the Polly Cooper Chapter also remembered New York area Veterans by participating in U.S. Representative Sean Maloney’s eighth annual Valentines for Veterans initiative. The committee, which serves American Veterans and recognizes their service to the preservation of our nation’s freedom, sent one hundred cards that will be distributed at the Castle Point VA Medical Center in Wappingers Falls, New York.
