Key to Awesomeness: Focused. This word describes Zoe Lazarus perfectly. This bright, young woman has many diverse interests. She pursues each and every one of them intently.
Volunteerism is a major part of Lazarus’s life. “It’s nice to do things for other people,” she said. Through the SHARE club at Greeley, Lazarus began teaching English at Casa de Lingua in Mount Kisco. “The most gratifying part is when they pass a test,” she observed. Students share stories about their families and their enthusiasm for “living the American dream.”

Lazarus has been training dogs for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She and her family welcome the dogs into their home and help them grow accustomed to living with people. Additionally, Lazarus is an avid participant in the annual Relay for Life at her school and she works in the perinatal office at Northern Westchester Hospital.
In the world of academics, Lazarus gravitates toward science and math. “That’s my niche,” she said. In Greeley’s highly respected science research program, Lazarus has begun discussing a project with a mentor at Burke Rehabilitation Center and is currently studying his research on the effect of strokes on the brain.
