Great Escape: Discover a Different Kind of Relaxation at Nina's Herbal Salon
Moms know how to mutli-task. This week's Great Escape allows you to cleanse and relax at the same time.

You’ve dropped off your children at preschool and have some time to spare before you need to food shop. Picture yourself lying on your left side in a cozy candlelit treatment room. The soundtrack of Kidz Bop 19 is fading, and it’s being replaced by the soothing melodies typical of the spa atmosphere. You completely relax as your trained attendant places a cloth and wax candle in your ear and begins to light it. What? That last part doesn’t sound relaxing? Oh, but it is. Ear candling (also known as ear coning) is available at located at 201 Commack Road. And yes, a candle-like cone is inserted in one ear then the other. When lit, a sort of vacuum occurs, removing debris from the ear. The candle never burns too close to the head. The face is protected by the plate, which catches any ash that might fall from the candle. The deep relaxation is in the warmth and gentle pressure felt in each ear. The treatment’s purpose is to rid the body of excess wax in the ear canal. This can potentially aid in the relief of sinus pressure, minor headaches and stress. Name one mom who doesn’t need a therapeutic midday stress reducer. The cost for this cleansing comfort is $35.
Why not follow up the ear candling with another service? The salon also offers facials, hair treatments, Henna tattoo, waxing and threading. Call 462-4730 for appointments.
