Police Officer Saves Life of Man Suffering From Cardiac Arrest

Several people, including an off-duty officer, were recently honored for saving the life of a Kings Park man who went into cardiac arrest and crashed his car into a guardrail in Commack last Wednesday, according to Suffolk Police.

The man was driving on Sagtikos Parkway when he went into full cardiac arrest causing the car to crash into a guardrail.

Third Precinct Patrol Officer James Brucculeri, who was off-duty, saw the accident and pulled over to help.

After finding that the driver was unconscious, barely breathing and turning blue from lack of oxygen, Brucculeri pulled the driver out of the car and immediately started CPR.

He was then joined by off-duty Central Islip-Hauppauge Ambulance EMT Alexa Bracco, Fourth Precinct Community Support Unit Police Officer Thomas LaFemina and other good Samaritans who all stopped to help.

The man was resuscitated and is currently in recovery at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

New York State Trooper Scott Larson, members of the Commack Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps personnel were also honored for their help in saving the man.
