Police ID Man Killed, Woman Critically Injured in LIE Crash
A car rear-ended a tractor-trailer Saturday morning, police say.

A man was killed and a woman critically injured in a crash between a car and a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway in Suffolk County Saturday morning, police said.
According to police, 28-year-old Sergio Vargas, of Queens, was driving a 2012 Cadillac eastbound on the LIE east of Exit 53 in Brentwood when his vehicle struck the back of a 2013 International tractor-trailer, causing the tractor-trailer to overturn at about 5:10 a.m.
Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Sasha Adams, 28, of Bellport, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Juan Arroyave-Garcia, 37, of Englewood, N.J., was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore by Brentwood Legion Ambulance to be treated for minor injuries.
The Cadillac was impounded for a safety check and the tractor-trailer was inspected at the scene.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
