Back in the day, Northport was once called “The Great Cow Harbor.” Fitting to its name, cows used to graze on the grass fields along the harbor.

Although those fields are now two parks and the name of the town has officially changed, residents still celebrate the great history of Northport each year with Cow Harbor Day Weekend.

Saturday and Sunday will be packed with activities: a popular road race, concerts, a parade, vendors, amusement rides and much more.

Here’s what the Village has in store for Cow Harbor Day Weekend:

Saturday

The Great Cow Harbor 10-Kilometer Run

  • Features a 10K run and a 2K run/walk.
  • Runners begin to toe the line at 8:30 a.m.
  • Race proceeds will support Special Olympics, the Veterans Administration, and the local food pantry.
  • Check out race FAQs here.

Decorated Boat Display

  • The sight can be seen on the Village Dock starting at 6 p.m.

Cow Harbor Concert

  • The performance kicks off at 8 p.m. in the Village Park at the band shell.

Sunday

Cow Harbor Parade

  • Parade begins at William Brosnan School on Laurel Avenue and goes down Main Street to Harbor Park.
  • Kicks off at noon.
  • Parade will feature local music, floats, sports teams, high school marching bands, antique cars and the Northport Trolley. Some will be dressed in costumes like Whiskey.
